The Master of Journalism course is a one year full-time or two year part-time course. Students learn the core skills of journalism—reporting and writing, television and video production, and digital journalism. They also take elective courses in a range of subjects from business and finance to global affairs reporting and documentary film.

Applications are being accepted from 1 November 2019 to 7 February 2020.
Entrance requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree from this university; or
- A qualification of equivalent standard from this university or from another university or comparable institution;
- A score of 587 or above (paper-based test) or 240 or above (computer-based test) or 95 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum overall band of 7.0 with no sub-test lower than 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if seeking admission on the basis of qualifications from universities or comparable institutions outside Hong Kong in which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English.
Candidates who do not hold a bachelor’s degree from this university or another qualification of equivalent standard may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if they possess proven professional experience in journalism, show evidence of excellence in the practice of journalism and proof of competence in the English language and satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if appropriate.
Applicants with outstanding merit could be exempted from the qualifying examination and considered for early admission by the admission panel.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to take an online qualifying examination administered by the JMSC . The examination aims to test candidates’ aptitude for journalism and does not require prior preparation.
Those who do well enough in the exam will be interviewed either in person or via Skype.
*Tuition fees for 2020–2021:
HKD 180,000 for local students (60 credits @ HKD 3,000 per credit)
HKD 199,800 for non-local students (60 credits @ HKD 3,330 per credit)
